Where Words Lead The Way: Authoring Action’s Teacher Training

This summer, Authoring Action is proud to offer a unique opportunity for educators, teaching artists, and advocates. Our Teacher training is an immersive experience designed to equip you with our powerful creative writing process, built to inspire and ignite change from within the classroom and beyond.

What is Authoring Action Teacher Training?

Authoring Action’s Teacher Training introduces participants to our Signature Writing Process and First Ink Discussion, a dynamic pedagogy rooted in Socratic dialogue, self-expression, and critical thinking. Designed to be integrated into any classroom, curriculum, or community setting, the method helps educators foster transformative, inclusive, and deeply human learning environments.

The Process: Writing as a Curative Force

At the core of our method is language, not simply as a skill, but as a tool for healing, advocacy, and connection. Through a guided yet flexible structure, educators learn how to help students unearth their own stories, challenge assumptions, and find power in their words. This process transcends teaching; it's exegetical, in that the process pulls from what is already within each student to build inherent human capacity, revealing an author with something to say. Beginning from within one person: a teen, a teacher, a professional, an advocate, this power is within each of us and manifests through language – even one word.

The first ink discussion is the foundation of our approach, using a purely Socratic method, educators pose essential, relevant questions that provoke thought, spark dialogue, and foster empathy. Whether discussing courage, social justice, or character development in literature, students begin to shape their own language, arguments, and perspectives. This stage not only builds rhetorical skill but also creates a level playing field, where every student, regardless of academic background, enters as an equal participant in a shared learning journey. Students then launch into our signature creative writing process, a method that breaks down fear of the blank page and allows for the authentic development of voice. Every word is chosen with intention. Every story is shaped with purpose.
