Denise “DD” Adams’ journey is deeply rooted in the legacy of Black leadership, resilience, and community empowerment. Born and raised in Winston-Salem — a city with its own rich African American history — Adams grew up witnessing the struggles and triumphs of Black communities during the civil rights movement and in the present day. This historical backdrop shaped Adams’ passion for public service and advocacy.

ABOUT JUST US

Since 2013, Authoring Action's Just Us has been a court-approved program. The filmmaking program takes authors through the writing process, and then adapts pieces into monologues and scripts. Authors are a part of each step of the filmmaking process from shot list to final editing. 

Authors come to this program through a judicial, SRO, school or personal preventive referral. Just Us programs include a 4 week Summer Intensive and 2 to 3 sixteen week sessions in the school year. Learn more
