Our mission is to transform the lives of youth and the world through artistic mediums. Our staff work year-round with young authors to manifest this vision. Our authors work many hours, evenings, and weekends editing work, writing new content and engaging new audiences. 

It costs $2,500 for 1 author to take part in one year of programming. We ask families to contribute what they can, and we are generously supported by private donors and grants, but we still need support to continue this work.

Taste of the South • November 16, 2017
gold sponsor level $2,000

Hundreds will gather to enjoy the very best in Southern cuisines by some of our city's best chefs, North Carolina wines, hand-crafted beers, live Southern music, a slient auction and brief performance by teen authors at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in downtown Winston-salem.

The Summer Intensive • One student sponsorship $1,500

The World can Change, with Just One Word.  Five-week intensive opportunity for youth to work collaboratively with their peers, adults, mentors and professional artists in filmaking and other disciplines to develop original written work from life stories and societal predicaments for a culminating community outreach production. 

 

Advanced Writing Workshops • $1,500

Fortify teen authors to build on the basic summer intensive in order to write to assigment for engagements in the community and around the state.  Teens engage in research and discussion around critical social issues, learn to think critically and to articulate their point of view, develop their ability to engage in the community, while developing leadership skills. 

 

Winter Retrospective • At Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art • $1,000

SECCA teams up with Authoring Action at the end of February and early March to presnt a public performance for the community. Teen authors will engage the audience in an hour long "Best Of" featuring their 15-16 collective works in spoken word, music and film.
