WHAT: REACH is an evocative, live stage and film production featuring original films and written works of poetry, monologues and editorials by teen participants in Authoring Action's 2010 Summer Institute. Through spoken word, interwoven with music, movement and three short films, the REACH ensemble delivers a tapestry of life experience; a collective insight that calls the community to compassion, justice and care.

WHERE: Green Street United Methodist Church, 639 South Green Street, Winston-Salem

ADMISSION: Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

All proceeds support Authoring Action's year-round arts and leadership programming.

"We engage with audiences not for applause or acclaim, but to evoke an emotional response, stir minds and get you thinking about what you can do to make a difference.” --Bruce Zhang, age 13, 2010 REACH Ensemble

The REACH production marks both an ending and new beginning for Reach Ensemble members – graduation from the 2010 Summer institute (a five-week intensive opportunity to work collaboratively with peers, adults, mentors and professional writers and artists) and induction into Authoring Action’s After School Advanced Writing Program and traveling Assegai Outreach Ensemble. Throughout the school year, Assegai members are supported and encouraged to take ownership of their educational success, carry positive messages to their peers and contribute their insights and ideas to important community dialogues and initiatives focused on positive systemic change.
